In 2026, all troop adults must have completed the new youth protection training course by May 31st. This new, upgraded YPT training course is now known as Safeguarding Youth Training.
This course takes about 90 minutes and is presented as a series of videos, all of which are new as of 2025. There is a 20 question quiz at the end and you must get at least 80% (16 questions) correct to complete the certification. It's our understanding that adults will be required to recertify this training every two years via a shorter recert course.
Each new section has a list of the learning objectives for the following videos. You do not need to click "listen" to listen to audio of the the learning objectives. Scroll down to the next video and hit "play".
First, login at my.scouting.org using your existing account.
If you are an existing troop adult, you DO have a my.scouting.org account already. Do not create a new account!
Creating a new account will create a duplicate Scouting America membership and a new BSA member ID, which will cause all sorts of problems for you next time you need to renew your membership, complete online training, or if you register to attend a Scouting America High Adventure. If you have lost your password, please look for "forgot password" to reset your password and regain access to your account.
Second, click the big emblem below to start the Safeguarding Youth Training course. This course can also be found at training.scouting.org/learning-plans/2025.
You should see the course page below. Click Enroll and then Start. Be aware that this course is 90 minutes long. As you complete each lesson, you can stop and come back later to resume the course.
If you need to stop the course and come back to it later, be sure to finish the lesson that you are on and click the blue Continue button.
See the example below. You might need to scroll up/down a bit to see the button!
Clicking Continue saves your progress and loads the next lesson.
Only click "Exit Course" after you have clicked the blue Continue button.
When you're ready to come back to complete the training, log into my.scouting.org again and click the SYT emblem or browse directly to training.scouting.org/learning-plans/2025.
You should see the course page below and it should show your progress. Click Resume to pick up where you left off.
At the end of the course, you'll take a 20-question quiz. You need to get 16 questions (80%) correct to be certified for the course.
When you pass the quiz, you'll see this confirmation screen below.
But you're not quite done yet! Troop 78 also needs to see proof that you've completed the course successfully.
After completing the course and passing the quiz, you should receive an email from Scouting America that includes a pdf certificate showing your complete date and expiration date.
If you are planning to attend Summer Camp or any Scouting America High Adventure, you will need to provide this pdf either as an upload or a printout as part of your event registration, so save it somewhere safe.
Then also forward this email to Troop 78's Adult Leader Training Coordinator, currently Mae Hsu.
You can also export your certificate later from my.scouting.org. Just follow these instructions on how to export your SYT certificate any time.
